Summer Employment Opportunities Now Available for Capital Region Youth
Youth ages 14-24 have the opportunity to earn money, receive skills training,
and prepare for career success
HARTFORD, CONN. – April 6, 2022 – Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) today announced the launch of their annual Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP), an initiative that connects youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with paid summer jobs and career readiness experience.
“While SYELP provides the chance for youth in our region to earn money, it’s more than just a job,” said Alex B. Johnson, President & CEO of CWP. “This program is a great opportunity for young people to gain work-based experience and life skills training that will contribute to future career success.”
Residents ages 14-21 living in a north central Connecticut community, or Hartford residents ages 14-24 are eligible to participate in SYELP. Wages range from $12 to $14 per hour, depending on the program placement and participant’s age.
CWP is also reaching out to Opportunity Youth in Hartford to connect them with SYELP. Opportunity Youth are young people ages 16 to 24 who are not currently enrolled in school, are not employed, or do not have their high school diploma.
“Opportunity Youth often face challenges to beginning their careers,” said Johnson. “SYELP is a great way for these young people to get back on track, earn a good wage, and start to gain the skills employers are looking for in today’s workforce.”
During the six-week program, SYELP participants will be placed with employers in high-demand sectors at worksites throughout the capital region. Youth participating in SYELP have gained valuable work experience with employers across a range of industries including the retail, education, health care, and other sectors.
CWP is currently accepting applications for 2022’s SYELP; the deadline to apply to the program is May 28th.
CWP is hosting a webinar on April 8, 2022, at 12:00pm to help individuals and organizations learn more about the 2022 Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program.
