REACH - Training for Healthcare Practitioner and Health IT Careers
Announced October 15, 2014, Capital Workforce Partners was awarded a $6.7 million "Ready To Work" grant from the U. S. Department of Labor is primarily aimed at getting people struggling with long-term unemployment back to work in healthcare practitioner and healthcare IT occupations. The grant for the North Central Connecticut region that includes Hartford, New Britain, Bristol, Enfield, East Hartford, Manchester and Vernon is entitled R.E.A.C.H. – Re-employment Alliance for Careers in Health.
• REACH will train 300 individuals for positions in Nursing and Information Technology in the healthcare sector.
• 85% of the participants will be long-term unemployed and 15% will be incumbent workers – (RNs already employed at the region's healthcare facilities to be trained in critically needed specialties)
• Targeted occupations require at a minimum an Associate's Degree and/or an industry-recognized credential, and will advance participants to higher levels on career pathways that rely upon H-1B visa recipients.
• Employing an intense, career coaching model through the region's American Job Center / CTWorks One-Stop system, and using assessment tools geared toward the Long-term Unemployed, participants will be assessed and funneled to opportunities matching skill sets, interest and aptitude in identified industries by providing intensive pre-employment services and customized interventions with on-the-job training.
