Workforce Investment Act funding helped Veteran get back to work.
Thomas was nominated by his CTWorks Career Agent, Beverly Prutting for the 2013 Workforce Star Award and is a tremendous winner. As a military Veteran, Thomas fell victim to a series of layoffs. His first job as an Assistant Plant Manager lasted seven years. Then a five month gap. He aquired another job, that lasted only a year due to the economic conditions impacting his employer.
After another seven months, Thomas went to CTWorks for help. He was enrolled in the FIRST Program (Focused-Intensive-Reemployment-Skills-Training). He learned how to market himself to employers and social networking skills. With Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding, he took a course at CCSU's Institute of Technology and Business Development in Total Quality Management. Within a MONTH, he found a great job as a Safety Quality Coordinator.
Thomas’s experience really exemplifies how our partners – Capital Workforce Partners, Department of Labor, CTWorks, KRA Corp., Career TEAM, and our Educational Partners all work together to get people like Thomas on the fast track back into the workforce.
