Steve Elson "Building" His New Career

"ENCORE!Hartford and the FIRST program at CTWorks (part of the American Job Center Network) helped me discover my passion, and enabled me to transition into the nonprofit  sector," said Steve Elson.  A former commercial developer, Steve is now the Development Manager at the Women's Institute for Housing & Economic Development where he manages affordable housing development projects at various stages in the development process including feasibility analysis, acquisitions, architectural oversight, financial structuring and applications, construction monitoring, and asset management.

Both Steve and Bradley, who were previously unemployed, benefitted from Workforce Investment Act scholarship assistance to get the training they needed to transition to the careers of their dreams.

Interested in a career in nonprofit management?  The application period for the program administered by UCONN's Department of Public Policy  begins November 17th (program is from March 2015 - June 2015).
