Meet Your Future Healthcare Workforce
Thanks to Capital Workforce Partners, and OIC's Paulette Fox (l) and her team, and some fabulous mentors and leaders at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, 13 New Britain High School students had amazing internship opportunities this summer at the hospital. Some worked in Rehab, others in IT or Building Maintenance or Food Services.
Most of the participants were high school juniors or seniors, and seven of the participants came from New Britain's Health Care Academy. The young ladies who worked in the Rehabilitation Unit, all had aspirations to further their education toward being an RN or related healthcare professional. Samson Babalola, who worked in the IT department is headed off to Providence College this fall. The Hospital's CEO, John Votto said, "We were happy to have these youthful people in our institution this summer, and it was great for our staff. It makes you a better person when you are teaching or mentoring a person."
The students did so well over the five weeks they were hired, most returned for an extra week or more, and some will be working part-time for the hospital during the school year.
