2016 Youth Workforce Star Manufactures a Solid Future at ACMT
Alexis Alvarado may not get the best grades at Pathways Academy of Technology and Design, but he saw an opportunity to learn about the world of manufacturing and grabbed it. As a high school senior, Alexis was offered a chance to work with manufacturer ACMT (formerly AdChem) in Manchester, CT. After school work is limited to only working a few hours a day which often doesn't give a young adult sufficient time to be immersed in a work culture, learn a trade or develop a full work ethic.
So Pathways Academy, in partnership with ACMT and Capital Workforce Partners designed an internship enabling Alexis and four other students to replace classwork with real, on-the-job experience each Friday. At ACMT, Alexis was paired up with a CMM (Coordinate Measuring machine) Operator where he has excelled. And as a result, Alexis was hired full time upon graduation.
HR Director for ACMT, Lisa Sanders stated, "Alexis has future goals of going to college in engineering. We believe he is on the right track to make that happen and we hope we are his employer of choice."
