What is WIOA?

Application Instructions and Deadlines Below:

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION

 To apply for a scholarship, you must:

  1. Attend the Career Services Information Session at the American Job Center.
  2. Attend the S.T.Y.L.E.  Workshop at the American Job Center.
  3. Conduct research into career training programs; this research will be described in your essay.
  4. Select a training program; you must meet basic eligibility for the program at the time you apply for a scholarship.  Eligibility may include prior education and/or skill levels, or having a certain type of background, such as a clean driving record or no criminal record.
  5. Secure a copy of the course listing for the training program you intend to apply for.
  6. Apply to the training program but do not enroll, and apply for any financial aid that is available.
  7. Have a representative of the training institution complete the Coordination of Benefits form, and attach a copy of proof you applied for FAFSA, if applicable.
  8. Meet with a Career Agent to apply for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) certification; only individuals determined to be eligible for WIOA will be considered for a scholarship.
  9. Complete the Career Scope Assessment of Aptitudes and Interests; the summary will be attached to your application.
  10. Complete a Reading and Math Skills Assessment; a college degree may be considered as evidence of reading and math skills in some cases.
  11. Complete Individual Training Scholarship Application, including:
    • Individual Training Scholarship Application Form
    • Resume (must be typed)
    • Essay (must be typed)
    • Signed Participant Agreement
    • Signed Education Release Form
    • Course listing for training program
  12. Submit the Application package by the deadline.
  13. If WIOA Scholarship is awarded, applicant must schedule an appointment with a Career Agent to finalize program eligibility, funding, and program start/end dates.

During the application period a panel of Workforce Development Professional staff will review and score the applications.  The scoring system includes priority for Veterans and for training programs with a history of positive credentialing job placement outcomes.  The passing score is 70 points. 

Funding for scholarships is limited; when the volume of applications exceeds available resources, recipients will be selected based on application scores.  When there are multiple applications with the highest score, preference will be given to applicants who have selected Capital Workforce Partners’ high priority training programs.

During the application period a panel of Workforce Developmental Professional staff will review and score the applications. The scoring system includes priority for Veterans and for training programs with a history of positive credentialing job placement outcomes. The passing score is 70 points. Funding for scholarships is limited; when the volume of applications exceeds available resources, recipients will be selected based on application scores. When there are multiple applications with the highest score, preference will be given to applicants who are long-term unemployed (more than six months), who lack a college degree and have selected Capital Workforce Partners' high priority training programs.

Please allow up to 8 weeks processing time between Award Notification and Start of Training; final registration and enrollment requirements vary by program.
