Occupational Insights Report Summary

First Quarter 2017

Healthcare continues to be the highest growing of the industry sectors with almost 80,000 jobs in Hartford County in 2015.   The top three healthcare occupations by growth are Personal Care Aides, Home Health Aides, and Medical Assistants.  Registered Nurses, which was on last quarter’s report, has dropped off the top 20 growth ranking this quarter.

Manufacturing continues to be a major economic driver in the region and employs over 50,000 in Hartford County.  It also employs some of the oldest workers, with 48.9% of Tool and Die Makers, 38.6% of Aerospace Engineers, and 37.8% of Machinists aged 55+.

Construction is expected to grow by 475 jobs from 2015-20, slightly less than the 600 jobs in last quarter’s report.  Although construction positions are not generally filled in the same way as other sectors, occupations within this sector that continue to show the strongest growth from 2015-20 are Plumbers, Construction Laborers, and Electricians.
